In 1830, Granville, NSW, was a sparsely populated area on the outskirts of Sydney, part of the broader Cumberland Plain. Originally inhabited by the Darug people, the land had begun to be settled by European colonists following British colonisation in 1788. The area was largely rural, characterised by farmland, orchards, and timber resources, as it served as a source of produce for the growing colony of Sydney. The Parramatta River, which borders Granville, played a crucial role in transportation and trade. While not yet developed as a suburban centre, Granville's strategic location between Parramatta and Sydney laid the foundation for its future growth into a significant residential and industrial hub.
